Europarlamentarul USR Dacian Cioloș a comentat reținerea și arestarea fostului premier bulgar Boico Borisov, precizând că „încet-încet, lumea va înțelege de ce s-au opus unii politicieni Parchetului European” condus de fostul procuror-șef al DNA, Laura Codruța Kovesi (care a fost revocată de președintele Klaus Iohannis, în baza unei decizii a CCR).
Iată mesajul lui Ciolos:
„Reținerea fostului premier bulgar, alături de alți foști oficiali de la sud de Dunăre, pe baza unor investigații ale Parchetului European (EPPO), arată că această instituție căreia mulți au încercat să îi bage bețe în roate a început să funcționeze.
Încet-încet, lumea va înțelege de ce s-au opus unii politicieni începerii activității Parchetului European sau au încercat să blocheze mecanismul de protejare a statului de drept la nivel european. Fără aceste două instrumente, „micii Putini” pot înmuguri și în UE, fraudând fonduri europene pentru a-și consolida puterea și influența.
Uniunea Europeană și statele membre pot fi mai puternice dacă reușesc să își protejeze mai bine fondurile de dezvoltare, dacă achizițiile publice sunt corecte cu toate companiile, fie ele mici sau mari, dacă nu se fraudează subvențiile agricole și dacă fondurile de relansare a economiei europene ajung doar la cei îndreptățiți. Este valabil și pentru România, și pentru celelalte state din UE”.
