Preşedintele în exerciţiu al Belarusului, Aleksandr Lukaşenko, a câştigat cu 80,23% din voturi alegerile de duminică în această ţară, a anunţat luni Comisia Electorală Centrală, citând rezultatele preliminare.
Scrutinul a fost unul tensionat, marcat de violenţe şi acuzaţii de fraude electorale, transmit agențiile de știri internaționale.
Poliţia din Belarus a intervenit cu tunuri cu apă, gaze lacrimogene şi grenade paralizante pentru reprimarea protestelor izbucnite duminică după ce presa de stat a anunţat că preşedintele Lukaşenko, la putere de 26 de ani, era pe punctul de a câştiga al şaselea mandat consecutiv.
Svetlana Tihanovskaia, o fostă profesoară de engleză devenită principalul rival al lui Lukaşenko în alegerile prezidenţiale, a întrunit 9,9% din voturi, a indicat Comisia.
